Lee’s practice focuses on interactive sound installations, often adapted as performances. A graduate of MA in Fine Arts at the Royal College of Art in London, Lee has been active as an artist and an independent curator since relocating to Seoul. He was selected as a curator for 2021 Korea Research Fellow 10 x 10, and have been part of a curatorial team at an artist-run-space; Euljiro OF since 2020. As a live performer, Lee is currently active as a DJ in Seoul’s underground scene and previously toured with a contemporary dance group. Primarily interested in interactive and participatory projects, Lee’s works deprive or evoke audio, visual, and linguistic touch to stimulate multi-sensory experience with the audience.

인터액티브 사운드 설치 기반인 이현종의 작업은 때로는 퍼포먼스로 각색되어 선보여 지기도 한다. 라이브 퍼포머로 현재 서울의 이태원과 홍대 일대의 일렉트로닉 음악 베뉴들에서 DJ로 활동 중이며, 지난해 까지는 현대무용단과 공연 투어를 돌기도 하였다. 런던의 왕립예술대학에서 순수미술 석사 학위를 받았으며 현재 서울을 기반으로 작가, 독립기획자, DJ, 등 다채로운 활동을 펼치고 있다. 작가로 참여한 주요 단체전으로는 <2022, Instead of An Afterwards, 주홍콩한국문화원, 홍콩>, <2021, 노래하는 사람, 대안공간 루프, 서울>, <2021, 긴 지금, d/p, 서울>, <2021, 콜렉티브 컬렉션, 을지예술센터, 서울>, <2021, 엑소포니, 을지로 OF, 서울>, <2020, The Whistler, 갤러리 ERD, 서울>, <2020, No Space, Just A Place : Eterotopia, 대림 미술관, 서울>, <2018, APT Live, APT Studios, 런던>, <2018, hmn 015, 런던>, 등이 있으며, 독립기획자로 지난 2021년 Korea Research Fellow 10x10 에 초청 되었다. 2020년 부터는 아티스트-런-스페이스 '을지로 OF’의 공동 기획 및 운영자로 활동 중이다. 최근까지 현대무용단의 음악 연출가로 중장기 프로젝트에 참여하였으며, DJ 활동 또한 꾸준히 하고 있다. 주로 상호적인 관객 참여형 작업들을 선보이고, 언어, 소통, 그리고 하류문화의 근원을 기반으로 사운드, 영상, 퍼포먼스 작업으로 풀어간다.

About Seoul Spin 003 - Coffee and Vinyl
The artist would like to welcome the audience for a curated record listening event — “Seoul Spin.” Although this is not the first session, there’s been a break due to the Covid outbreak which has reshaped the ‘live’ scene in South Korea with various limitations. Yet, the artist whose currently active as a DJ, attempts to bring back the channel where people can find more information about the music that is currently playing. There used to be the days where the DJ commonly made introductions about the music which may be classical to rhythm and blues, the commentary featured shared important history and broader concepts behind the album. On a scheduled day, the invited guest, DJ Soju of Mmm Records and the host will share music/albums from the original motion pictures. Coffee will be served by the artist at the spot, caffeine, black, either as an espresso or an americano.

작가는 관객들을 레코드 청음 기획인 “서울 스핀” 에 초대합니다. 비록 코로나 여파로 서울의 라이브 씬의 지형이 변형을 해오며 갖가지 제약들 속에서 그동안 “서울 스핀”은 잠시 쉬어 갔지만, 음악과 큐레이션이 모인 자리로 다시 초대드립니다. 음악이 단순한 감상이 아닌, 과거의 흔한 라디오 등 매체와 같이, 해당 음악의 역사와 컨셉에 대한 부분에 대한 코멘테리도 곁들인 이벤트에 모카포트에서 내려온 커피 또한 관객분들을 맞이 합니다. 해당 이벤트를 위하여 ‘영화 음악’들을 소개하고자 합니다. 음 레코드의 DJ 소주와 함께 영화계에서 활발히 활동한 작곡가들 및 각종 희귀 레코드들을 소개하고자 합니다.
