Jin Meyerson is an American artist who currently lives and works in Seoul. Born in Incheon City, Korea in the early 70’s, Meyerson spent the first 5 years of his life in an orphanage before being adopted into a Jewish-Swedish family from rural Minnesota. He spent his early, formative years in the American Midwest before pursuing his education in fine arts, receiving his BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1995, and his MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1997. Meyerson started his career in the late 90’s in NYC , with his first solo show at LFL Gallery in 2003. He moved to Paris in 2006, where he lived and worked for the next four years, until he was invited by the National Museum of Contemporary Art Korea to attend their residency in Changdong, Seoul. Since 2009, Meyerson has lived and worked in different parts of Asia and currently resides in Seoul.
He has recently lectured at Harvard University, Hongik University, Seoul National University, the latest Bloomberg Quant Seminar and the Seoul Museum of History, where he is the only Korean adoptee to have been invited to present his life and work. His paintings have been featured in extensive solo and group exhibitions globally, including: Zach Feuer Gallery, NYC; Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, Paris and Hong Kong; The Saatchi Gallery London; Galerie Nordine Zidoun, Luxembourg; Arario Gallery, Seoul and Cheonan, Hakgojae Gallery Seoul and Shanghai, Pearl Lam Gallery HK and has an upcoming show in Seoul and Busan with Johyun Gallery + Gallery2 in 2021. Jin Meyerson’s work can be found in numerous public and private collections, including: the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; The Saatchi Collection, London; Vanhaerents Art Collection, Brussels; Dean Valentine Collection, Los Angeles; the de la Cruz Collection, Miami; the Speyer Family Collection, New York; the Yuz Foundation, Jakarta/ Shanghai; the Taguchi Art Collection, Tokyo; MACAN Museum, Jakarta; and the Sansab Museum, Bangkok.
진 마이어슨은 현재 서울에 거주하며 작업하고 있는 작가이다. 2003년 LFL 갤러리에서의 첫 개인전으로 마이어슨은 90년대 후반 뉴욕에서의 커리어를 시작했다. 그는 2006년에 파리로 옮겼으며, 국립 현대 미술관에서 초청한 서울 창동의 레지던시에 참가하기 전까지 4년간 그곳에서 지냈다. 2009년부터 마이어슨은 아시아의 여러 지역에서 지내며 작업을 했고 현재는 서울에 살고 있다. 70년대 초, 인천에서 출생해 미네소타 시골 지역에 사는 유대인과 스웨덴계 가족에게 입양되기 전까지 마이어슨은 5년간 고아원에서 지냈다. 미술 교육을 받기 전 그는 아주 어린시절을 미국 중부 지역에서 보냈으며 이후 1995년 미니애폴리스 미술 대학에서 학사학위를, 1997년 펜실베니아 순수미술 아카데미에서 석사학위를 이수했다.
최근에 그는 역대 유일한 한국 입양아로서 초청되어 하버드 대학교, 홍익 대학교, 서울 대학교, 블룸버그 시장 분석 세미나, 서울 역사 박물관에서 그의 삶과 작업에 관한 강연을 했다. 그의 그림은 뉴욕의 Zach Feuer 갤러리를 포함해 파리와 홍콩의 갤러리 임마누엘 페로탱, 런던의 사치 갤러리, 룩셈부르크의 갤러리 Nordine Zidoun, 서울과 천안의 아라리오 갤러리, 서울과 상하이의 학고재 갤러리, 홍콩의 펄램 갤러리 등 전세계적으로 광범위한 개인전과 단체전에 출품되었으며, 서울과 부산에 위치한 조현 갤러리와 갤러리 2에서 2021년도에 전시가 있을 예정이다. 진마이어슨의 작품은 뉴욕의 솔로몬 R. 구겐하임 미술관, 런던의 사치 갤러리, 브뤼셀의 반헤렌츠 컬렉션, 로스 앤젤레스의 딘 발렌타인 컬렉션, 마이애미의 데 라 크루즈 컬렉션, 뉴욕의 슈파이어가 컬렉션, 자카르타와 상하이의 유즈 재단, 도쿄의 다구치 아트 컬렉션, 자카르타의 자카르타 현대 미술관, 방콕의 산삽 박물관 등 수많은 공공 및 개인 소장품에서 찾아볼 수 있다.
