Dong-Jun Kim was born in 1994, and lives and works in Seoul. Kim Dong-Jun is working with photography. However, he considers a formed photograph not enough in itself. Therefore, his work contains additional processes after the formation of the photograph. As a result, his work is revealed in the way that photographs and structures built for photographs are put together. Through such processes and results, he hopes to give photographs a kind of specificity. He participated in several exhibitions; <If Concrete melts>(Hwangumhyang, 2021), <VICTORY OVER THE SUN>(OksangFactory, 2021), <O’FLAT>(Euljiro OF, 2021), <System Container>(Gasamrojieul, 2021), <COLLECTIVE COLLECTION>(Eulji Art Center, 2021), <NO SPACE JUST A PLACE: ETEROTOPIA>(DAELIM MUSEUM, 2020).

<If concrete melts_Concrete #5_Device:Disarranging>_2022
Inkjet Print, Projector, Plywood_98x47x50cm

<If concrete melts>is based on the photographs which are pointing concrete objects. The objects made with concrete couldn’t form the photographs by itself. However, formed photographs only show the concrete objects. In other words, the other part which causes formation of photographs is not revealed on surfaces of photographs. <If concrete melts> is an attempt to reveal the other causes from under the surface of photographs.

<Event of Tranquillity Attached Storage_Storage-Object 24.5.1>_2022
Inkjet Print, Plywood, Ball bearing runner, LED, Relay module, Bolt, Nut_70x214x150cm
Objects which have multiple cracks were found from the ground. The cracks made the objects get far from its original purpose. <Event of Tranquillity Attached Storage>is built for the photographs from the cracks. By containing photographs inside, the storage attempts to follow the objects which have the cracks.

There is a steep slope in front of the studio. The cracks that started to form due to the passage of time and the load that crosses the asphalt are thin lines that are usually invisible, but the next day after it snows or rains, moisture spreads around the cracks and creates shapes. This work started with stopping and recording the shapes on the spot with a cell phone camera whenever I discovered forms that appear and disappear again. Each water spot in the recorded images is mixed, overlapped, and rearranged on a single sheet of paper in an analog method called photogram. The pieces of the image fixed on the paper are then rearranged on different sides of the three-dimensional structure.
